𝐃𝐨𝐩𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐨𝐱

I put my phone on DND, logged off social media and email for a few days, and had a life-changing realization.

Inspired by the book Dopamine Detox by Meurisse Thibaut, this experiment opened my eyes to how overstimulation and hyperactivity in the digital world can wreak havoc on our mental focus.

Our brains are constantly hacked by notifications and those tiny, fleeting bursts of dopamine we get from apps and emails—none of which truly add value to our lives.

Even as someone who works in the financial market - I have news for you - checking the market or your portfolio every second doesn’t offer any real insights. It just delivers a brief hit of expectation and a whole lot of wasted time. True insights come to a peaceful mind.

Nothing changes if you read a news article a few hours later from a reliable source rather than doomscrolling on social media.

It’s a method to reset your brain's reward system by temporarily cutting out activities that provide instant gratification. The goal is to regain control, sharpen focus, and find joy in the more meaningful aspects of life.

𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝:

𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬: Without the usual distractions, my mind became much clearer and more focused. I could dive deeper into work and finally tackle projects I’d been procrastinating on, without the constant urge to check my phone.

𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐏𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬: With the dopamine highs on hold, I started to appreciate the smaller, often overlooked joys—like taking a walk without my phone, enjoying a good book, journaling, or having a deeper conversation.

𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐬: The detox helped me identify and break free from wasteful habits like playing games or online shopping.

𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐥-𝐁𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠: Overall, I felt a sense of calm and satisfaction that I hadn’t experienced in a while. It’s as if my brain got a much-needed reset, and I’m now more in tune with what truly matters.

The dopamine detox was a powerful reminder that in our hyper-digital world, less really is more. It’s not just about cutting out distractions but about making space for what truly adds value to our lives.
