Why sitting is bad for you

Do you know what percentage of time we spend sitting on a chair 🪑, in our car 🚗, in a couch 🛋️ on average? Any idea?

Depending on the sources of information, 60 to 75 % [See the article about a study done by the British Heart Foundation in the UK in the resources above]. So, this represents a huge number of hours ⌛ but also a low-hanging fruit 🍏 and a great opportunity of increasing your NEAT number!

By reducing your time spent in a seated position, you can have a significant positive impact on your NEAT and on your health ⚕️, well-being 😊, and brain performance 💪! As per the new saying, "sitting is the new smoking" 🚬 and in this 5 min TED talk "Why sitting is bad for you", you have an overview of the damages of sitting.

I personally recently bought a sit-stand desk that I can adjust to work in various positions during my day from crossed leg sitting to normal sitting to standing up.

But before that, I was switching between 3 alternatives: my chair 🪑, standing up at my kitchen counter 🧍, or sitting on an exercise ball 🏀 [See carrousel of pictures here under].

What kind of alternative could you find to reduce your time spent sitting during your day? 🤔 You may use:

A standing desk, a sit-stand desk or elevate your computer so you can work standing or take video conferences [VCs] standing 🆙

Sit on an exercise ball 🏀

Elevate your workstation to be able to stand up in place of seating at your desk

Use a Japanese table to sit on the floor when you eat, watch TV or when you work 🎌

I am sure you can find other creative ideas! 💡

Can you at least find one alternative to sitting on a chair that you can apply for an activity you regularly do?

During your day, regularly switch between sitting on a chair and that alternative. Note: Each time you take a "Chi Snack" can be a good trigger to change your position. 🪑 🧍🏀
